May 2009 – Quail Creek Dam, Wax Museum & 1st Grade Fun
May 9, 2009 – Quail Creek Dam
Brittany’s 5th grade class went on a field trip to Quail Creek Dam in Hurricane, Utah. Since I’d never been, I thought I’d go along as a class chaperone to check it out. There was a lot of construction going on when I was there, and not sure exactly what they were doing, but it seemed like a really nice place. I was surprised to find out that there are some hikes in the area that I’d like to go back and check out.
Part of the field trip was that the kids got to take a tour of inside the dam. They all really liked that since it was dark, and lots of puddles to jump over. After walking through the dam, they got to walk on top of the dam. The kids also liked this, since normally it’s gated off.  Quail Creek State Park provides excellent year-round camping, picnicking, boating, and trout and bass fishing. I’d like to go back here and do some camping and hiking some day.  See more pictures of Quail Creek Dam and Reservoir!!
May 13, 2009 – Wax Museum
One of the principal’s favorite days at school is when the 5th graders participate in the Wax Museum. This is the day they have to dress up as a famous person, and remain as still and quiet as possible, until someone walks by and claps, or snaps. Then the student “comes alive” and says a famous quote or line from that person. The principal says it’s his favorite day because it’s the quietest the 5th graders ever are!
Brittany chose to be the famous author, Judy Blume. Judy has written many books, but some of the more recognizable ones are: Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret; Blubber; Just as Long as We’re Together; and the five book series about Fudge.
When Brittany as Judy Blume came alive, she said one of two quotes:Â “My only advice is to stay aware, listen carefully and yell for help if you need it” and “Believe in yourself and you can achieve greatness in your life.” Wax Museum Pics
May 22, 2009 – Cole’s 1st Grade Experiences
Cole really loved 1st grade. He loved his teacher, and he so much fun on all the field trips to SUU, and the museums. Some of his favorites days were Grandparents day, where Grandma and Grandpa came into class, and talked about something special to them. One of my favorite pictures from 1st grade, was the one I got at Christmas. Cole in a Santa hat holding a present, it was just so adorable. For Mother’s day, I got a picture of him holding a baby chick that they raised in class, and for Father’s day, Scott got a picture of him outside on top of the monkey bars. See more pictures of Cole from First Grade here!!
